With breakfast being the most important meal of the day, I highly recommend starting your day with a bowl of nutritious chocolate oatmeal. Oats are high in fibre, iron, calcium and vitamin B benefiting our digestive and nervous systems as well as providing energy and promoting weight loss. It is high in antioxidants and lowers cholesterol. And cocoa powder is rich in antioxidant flavanols. Flavanols may protect your heart against cardiovascular disease, improves your blood circulation and lowers the risk of stroke.
This recipe is gluten-free and can also be made dairy-free depending on your choice of milk. The vanilla and cocoa powder add to the taste of the oats and the cocoa powder is a great additional ingredient if you want to encourage your kids to try out oatmeal, adding some extra honey as a natural sweetener. And for those of you who claim that you don't have time in the morning, this recipe only takes 5 minutes so no excuses!
