Product Description

Naturally gluten-free and a complete protein. Buckwheat groats have a mild flavour, but when toasted or roasted, have a delightfully intense flavour.

Buckwheat groats or buckwheat seeds are the hulled seeds of the buckwheat plant. These soft white seeds have a mild flavour, but when toasted or roasted, they have a delightfully intense flavour.

Buckwheat groats are gluten-free seeds from a plant related to rhubarb. The outer husk is pulled away and the grain-like fruit is harvested and eaten.

Enjoy this nutrient-rich superfood brought to you in a convenient way, peeled and ready to cook, soak or sprout. They are very nutritious and growing in popularity in many nations across the globe.

Buckwheat seeds are a complete protein because they include all the essential amino acids.

What is buckwheat in hindi?
In hindi, buckwheat is known as kuttu giri. Buckwheat is a popular fasting food in India as it is considered a pseudo-cereal making it suitable for consumption during fasting. In addition to its religious significance, buckwheat is also favoured during fasting because of its nutritional profile. It is rich in complex carbohydrates, providing sustained energy, and is high in fibre, protein, and essential minerals like magnesium and iron. These nutrients help keep the body nourished and energized during periods of fasting.

Fact

First cultivated in Southeast Asia thousands of years ago, in time buckwheat groats journeyed west and took root in Eastern Europe, where they became the star of many classic dishes. They are very nutritious and growing in popularity in many nations across the globe.

Our buckwheat seeds are naturally and sustainably grown by independent farmers in the Himalayan mountains near Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.

A popular "grain" and staple in Eastern Europe but grows wildly in our Himalayas. Our Buckwheat groats are farmed at altitudes as high as 4,400 meters and the period between sowing to harvest is only 30 days. Buckwheat seeds grow so fast they crowd out most weeds. Hence no pesticides or fertilizers are needed to grow this crop and it is by default organic.

  • Soak and consume as porridge

1. Rich in Nutrients

Buckwheat groats are packed with essential nutrients, including magnesium, manganese, copper, and phosphorus. They are also a good source of B vitamins, particularly niacin, riboflavin, and folate.

2. High in Antioxidants

Buckwheat seeds contain powerful antioxidants such as rutin, quercetin, and polyphenols. These antioxidants help protect the body from oxidative stress, reducing the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer.

3. Supports Heart Health

The rutin in buckwheat seeds is particularly beneficial for heart health. It helps strengthen blood vessels, reduces inflammation, and can lower blood pressure. Additionally, the high fibre content helps reduce cholesterol levels, further supporting cardiovascular health.

4. Gluten-Free and Easy to Digest

Since buckwheat is naturally gluten-free, it is an excellent alternative for those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. Buckwheat groats are also easily digestible, making them gentle on the stomach and suitable for those with digestive issues.

5. Improves Blood Sugar Control

Buckwheat groats have a low glycemic index, meaning they cause a slow and steady release of glucose into the bloodstream. This helps prevent spikes in blood sugar levels, making them a good option for people with diabetes or those looking to manage their blood sugar levels.

6. Supports Weight Management

The high fibre and protein content in buckwheat seeds can help promote a feeling of fullness, reducing overall calorie intake and supporting weight management. The fibre also aids in digestion, promoting regular bowel movements and preventing constipation.

7. Boosts Immune System

Buckwheat seeds are rich in zinc, a mineral that plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy immune system. Regular consumption of buckwheat groats can help strengthen the body's defences against infections and illnesses.

8. Promotes Healthy Skin

The antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties of buckwheat groats contribute to healthy, glowing skin. Rutin, in particular, helps protect the skin from damage caused by environmental factors like UV radiation.

9. Supports Muscle Function

Buckwheat seeds are a good source of magnesium, a mineral essential for muscle function. Magnesium helps relax muscles and nerves, reducing muscle cramps and spasms. It also plays a role in energy production, making buckwheat groats a great choice for active individuals.

Good quality Buckwheat at a fantastic price

I had been on the lookout for quality buckwheat for years and was happy to find it on Amazon. Earlier I had to order these from Singapore.
The buckwheat is of good quality. Slow boil it with salt and a pinch of cinnamon and finish it with Amul's garlic and herbs butter gives this buckwheat a taste of its own and doesn't even need anything to go with it.

Low glycemic index, fibers and loaded with vitamins/minerals make this an ideal replacement for rice/wheat for Diabetics and weight watchers.

Five Stars

Nice nutty flavour. I soak these overnight and make a smoothie with a fruit and some berries.
